Five Phoenix-area Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants closed this week after the owner failed to sell them in a recent deal to another franchise operator. Employees of the now-shuttered restaurants have the offer to work for the area's 19 remaining Applebee's, said Dan Smith, a spokesman for the restaurant chain.
