For 14 years, Dana Schwister and Erika Vala curated their own unmistakable style featuring local designers and quickly became a trend-scouting haunt for name designers seeking the next new thing for commercial production, and the New York, Time Out and other fashion nods steadily came (Best Independent Shop, Best Shop on Bedford, New York’s Best 50 Little Shops, Best Shops New York, etc.). Now, Mini Mini Market, beloved neighborhood mainstay and pioneer of Williamsburg’s fashion scene for fourteen glorious years, announces it will be closing its doors in true Williamsburg style: with the fashion-forward, positive foresight and passion that led the store’s creators to conceive its opening in 1999.

Mini Mini Market, beloved neighborhood mainstay and pioneer of Williamsburg’s fashion scene for fourteen glorious years, announces today it will be closing its doors in true Williamsburg style: with the fashion-forward, positive foresight and passion that led the store’s creators, Dana Schwister and Erika Vala, to conceive its opening in 1999. Shoppers are strongly advised to arrive promptly at 11 am or before on Tuesday, March 4th when fabulous fashion at amazing discounts starts.
Change happens, and Brooklynites of all types know that. Located right off of the infamous Bedford Avenue L stop at 218 Bedford Ave., Dana and Erika opened Mini Mini Market in 1999 with a vision and a prayer, when visitors could not hail a taxi in Williamsburg and the only other activities for locals were to eat a stale bagel at the L Café and get your bike stolen.
For 14 years, Dana and Erika curated their own unmistakable style featuring local designers and quickly became a trend-scouting haunt for name designers seeking the next new thing for commercial production, and the New York, Time Out and other fashion nods steadily came (Best Independent Shop, Best Shop on Bedford, New York’s Best 50 Little Shops, Best Shops New York, etc.).
Now Williamsburg is penthouse heaven, a global shopping destination featured in Vogue magazine, home to Michelin rated restaurants--and still Dana and Erika have remained at the top of the retail game.
But in NYC, it’s always there goes the neighborhood—the mid-range/boutique/independent neighborhood, of course. Dana and Erika found themselves at a crossroads with the soon to be realized 5 story Urban Outfitters neighbor and one of those oft-storied astronomic rent jacks that gives renters in pioneer neighborhoods nightmares, Dana and Erika made a decision to focus on their sister business located just around the corner, Shoe Market.
About the closing, Dana says: "I am really proud of the impact Erika and I have made in our community over the past 14 years. The Mini Mini Market has supported so many small, local designers and inspired other retailers and entrepreneurs to express their own creativity in Brooklyn and beyond. I am sad to say good-bye to an era when North Brooklyn was a hub for artists and free expression."
And Erika adds: “It is with really mixed emotions we have come to the decision to close the doors of Mini Mini Market. This business taught us everything, put us through everything. We started with nothing and built this business by showing up everyday and always hustling. We feel so grateful for those years and so thankful to everyone who helped us to make them happen.”

From Dana and Erika: “Wish us our favorite, fabulous and fashionable bon voyage on our Facebook page, and we will give you an extra 25% off the already amazing discounts that start on Tuesday. That’s basically free.”
