Ross McGowan and Ann Fraser join forces in retirement to provide meals for needy schoolkids Sitting side by side at a kid-size picnic table more than 22 years after long-running "People Are Talking" went off the air, the pair have retained the talk show habit of finishing each other's thoughts. [...] the Bay Area TV personalities remain very close in retirement, just working for a much smaller audience. McGowan in 2012 started Morning Grumble, leading a group that provides breakfast for the children at Healdsburg Elementary School, many of whom are living below the poverty line. Morning Grumble was created by McGowan the following fall, with a growing army of volunteers working out of the school's kitchen. Fraser and McGowan enjoyed a 14-year run together starting in 1978 on "People Are Talking," a KPIX morning talk show that might feature a psychic one day, an interview with Jimmy Carter the next, and then wrap the week up with a visit to a local nudist camp. (Cab Calloway and Rosemary Clooney performed.) After "People" was canceled in 1992, McGowan co-hosted KTVU's "Mornings on 2" for 17 years. The thought is interrupted by a laughing stampede of first- and second-graders, passing through the Healdsburg Elementary cafeteria where Fraser and McGowan are seated. With several top restaurants and luxury hotels downtown, Healdsburg has a reputation for wealth. [...] kids at Healdsburg Elementary, including many children of local agriculture workers, come from homes with a wide range of incomes. "First it was a little intimidating, but they're down-to-earth people," Ineich says. Reported by SFGate 6 hours ago.
