In response to an article published by Politico.com, Gabriel Pediatrics applauds the First Lady and Subway Restaurants for creating mass awareness about the severity of childhood obesity and what can be done to control it.

Gabriel Pediatrics responds to an article published on January 23 by Politico.com, which discusses the partnership between the First Lady and Subway Restaurants that has been formed in order to create mass awareness about the harmful effects that stem from childhood obesity.
According to the January 23 article published by Politico.com titled “First lady enlists Subway in childhood obesity fight,” First Lady Michelle Obama has asked Subway, which is the largest restaurant chain in the United States, to join her in her efforts to getting our country’s youth to consume more vegetables and fruits. Obama believes Subway has done a remarkable job on cutting down costs of healthy kids meals and praises them for using their ads and social media to “urge kids to eat more produce over the next three years.”
“With these new initiatives, Subway is once against stepping up to provide even more healthy choices for our families,” said the First Lady.
The restaurant chain offers apples in lieu of chips and offers milk or water over soda as the “default option” for kids’ meals. All kids’ meals are 600 calories or less, contain zero grams of trans fat and provide the child with at least a half serving of fruits and three quarter of a serving of vegetables.
A representative of Gabriel Pediatrics says high-profile initiatives are extremely effective. “When a public figure or celebrity brings notice to a cause, it automatically gains tractions with the press and the public allowing mass awareness to be created around the issue” he says. “In this particular instance, the First Lady is the face behind it all which reassures today’s parents that the government is doing what they can to keep America’s youth healthy.”
The representative continues, saying, “As a member of the pediatric medical world, it is very comforting to see that new light will be shed on the childhood obesity issue we see today.”
